In the world of online shopping, Etsy has become the go-to emporium for those looking to purchase unique and handcrafted items. As the festive season is here, it's time to explore the Etsy Christmas trends for 2023. From the rise of online shopping for exclusive gifts to the timeless charm of handmade items, this article will explore the trends that are set to take over Etsy this Christmas.

Christmas shopping with Etsy

When it comes to Christmas shopping, many people turn to the convenience of online marketplaces. While there are countless options available, Etsy stands out from the crowd. With its focus on handmade and vintage items, Etsy creates a shopping experience that is unlike any other. Shoppers can find one-of-a-kind treasures that make for truly meaningful gifts.

A way to maximise your sales during the festive period on Etsy is to follow the trends. Each year, Etsy shares the main forecasted trends for the festive period. In this blog post, we put together a list of the top trends and other tips that will help you boost your sales.

Gingerbread Girl - this trend is all about simplicity, tradition and a wholesome, rustic lifestyle. Popular items are: wreath sashes, ruffled and gingham bedding as well as festive cookie cutters.

Mantelscaping - this trend is all about adding style and festivity to fire and mantel places this winter. Popular items are; candle lanterns, ceramic Christmas trees and accent ornaments.

Grandpa Chic - this trend is all about bringing back the ‘old-school’ approach, aiming to add warmth and richness to homes. Popular colours in this trend are burgundy, olive green and tobacco brown. Popular items are; leather items such a poufs, marble coasters and vintage pieces.

Elevated Entertaining - this trend is all about hosting! Shoppers are focused on creating impressive and stylish hosting environments for their guests. Popular items are; zodiac tea towels, linen placemats and handmade glassware.

Candycore - this trend is all about, you guessed it, candy canes!. This is a playful trend that will add a fantastical and colourful dimension to your festive period. Popular items are; cotton candy cakes, sequin items and stained glass ornaments.

Meaningful Memories - this trend is all about travel! Shoppers have started to prioritise experiences over material gifts and the purchase of travel essentials is at the centre of this trend. Popular items are; birth flower travel cases, crafted bags, luggage tags and personalised baggage tags.

Fear not if your products can’t be modified to perfectly match these trends, you can try to include them as much as possible in your already existing products.

It’s also been noticed that Etsy shoppers are making efforts to be more sustainable and are purchasing more reusable items. This has been notices through a significant drop in searches of disposable plates and cups. Whilst it might be difficult to remain completely in line with the 2023 Etsy trends, it is important to consider the priority increasingly being placed on the purchase of reusable and more sustainable items.

Keep also in mind the price point! Etsy subdivides items into different price points (under £20, £20 to £50, £50 to £100, and over £100). Make sure to consider this when creating your shop. For example, if you are selling your product for £51, you might consider changing it to £49 (this is a good idea if your targeted customers are more likely to purchase at a lower price point).
