The Construction Industry Scheme is a tax deduction scheme for construction workers who are Self-employed or work for a Contractor. The scheme deducts 20% of your salary as an advancement towards tax and National Insurance contributions. Workers can claim a refund at the start of a new Fiscal Year when they have contributed too much.

Workers can apply for 'gross payment status' if they do not want deductions to be made in advance by Contractors.
